Privacy Policy

Stance is a personal publishing intelligence tool that helps professionals create content that reflects their genuine voice, perspective, and expertise — starting with LinkedIn and expanding to other professional platforms over time. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. By using Stance, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who we are

Stance is operated as an independent product. For questions about this policy, contact us at hello@getstance.app.

2. What we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account information

Your name, email address, job title, company, and location — provided during onboarding or sign-in via Google or magic link.

Profile content

Text you paste from your professional profiles and past content during onboarding. This is used solely to build your voice model. We do not store raw pasted content beyond the synthesis step.

Voice recordings

If you choose to record audio during onboarding, that audio is sent to OpenAI Whisper for transcription and then discarded. We store the transcript, not the audio file.

Generated content

Content generated by Stance, including drafts, approvals, edits, and dismissals. This data is used to improve your voice model over time.

Usage data

How you interact with the product — which features you use, how often you generate and approve content. Used to improve the product.

3. How we use your data

We use your data for the following purposes only:

To build and refine your voice model so Stance writes in your voice
To generate professional content tailored to your profile and goals
To surface relevant signals from your topic areas
To authenticate you and maintain your account
To send transactional emails (sign-in links, account notices)
To improve the product based on aggregated, anonymised usage patterns

We do not use your data to train general AI models. We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Third-party services

Stance uses the following third-party services to operate:

Supabase

Database and authentication. Your account data and voice model are stored here. Hosted on AWS infrastructure in the US.

OpenAI

GPT-4o is used for content generation and voice synthesis. Whisper is used for audio transcription. Content sent to OpenAI is subject to their privacy policy. OpenAI does not use API content to train their models by default.

Anthropic

Claude is used for certain synthesis and signal processing steps. Content is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy.

Tavily

Used to search for live signals relevant to your topic areas. Search queries are based on your selected topics, not personally identifying information.

Resend

Used to send transactional emails such as magic link sign-in emails.

Vercel

Hosts the Stance application. Standard access logs may be retained per Vercel's data practices.

5. Data retention

We retain your account data and voice model for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is removed within 30 days. Generated content marked as discarded is retained for voice model improvement purposes unless you request deletion.

6. Your rights

You have the right to:

Access the data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data
Request deletion of your account and associated data
Export your voice model and content history
Withdraw consent for data processing at any time

7. Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Database access is protected by row-level security — each user can only access their own data. We do not store passwords. Authentication is handled via Google OAuth or email magic links.

8. Children

Stance is designed for working professionals and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-product notice. Continued use of Stance after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
